How to Delete Corrupted Game Data From CFW on the PS3

A corrupted game file on a PlayStation 3 can be a big problem, because PS3s tend to freeze or crash when you make any effort to delete or move them. While they may seem stuck there, reformatting your system will remove the corrupted data once and for all, but there are some considerations to keep in mind.

Instructions

    • 1

Back up your game save data onto a memory card or other storage device. Reformatting your PS3 will delete everything on it, so your game files will need to be moved onto a memory card before you begin. All you need to save are the files that correspond to your gamer data, not the entire game.

    • 2

Go into the "System Settings" section from the "Settings Menu." Go to "Format Hard Drive" and select "Full Format." This will automatically clear everything from your hard drive, including the corrupted file. If you failed to back up your gamer data, it will now be gone.

    • 3

Reload your gamer data onto the newly formatted system and reinstall your games. With the reformatting complete, the corrupted data file will be gone, along with everything else you had saved. Any games that you installed by downloading off the PSN store will have to be redownloaded, but your gamer profile will remember your purchase history so you won't be charged again. Try inserting a game disc to make sure your saved files were backed up successfully.
