How to Patch a PS3 Game

Video games for the PlayStation 3 are occasionally released with minor bugs that interfere with regular game play. When these bugs are brought to the developers' attention, they will often release a patch for that game, which you can download and install to your PlayStation 3, free of charge. By default, the PlayStation 3 searches for patch updates to every game before launching it as long as you are signed in to your PlayStation Network account.

  Load your PS3 game into your PS3. Sign in to your PlayStation Network account by scrolling to the "Network" sub-menu on the PS3 main-menu.

  Scroll down to the "Sign-in" button and press "X" to log in to your PSN account. Navigate to the "Game" sub-menu.

  Scroll down to the icon representing the game you inserted earlier, then press "X" to launch the software. Before the software loads, your PS3 will automatically check for updated patch software.

  Highlight "OK" and press "X" to initiate the patch download process. Agree to the terms of the End User License Agreement, then the patch will be downloaded and installed automatically.
