How to Get PS3 Rockband to Work

"Rock Band" allows up to four people to simulate playing music as a guitarist, drummer, bassist or vocalist. The PlayStation 3 (PS3) version of "Rock Band" uses a wireless guitar controller, wired drum kit and wired microphone. The vocalist also uses a standard controller for menu navigation. The guitar controller can be used for either the guitarist or bassist roles. You do not need to hook up every instrument for the game to work. You only need to connect the controllers for the instruments to be used by the players.

6 AA batteries
USB hub (optional)
PS3 controller

Instructions

  Insert a USB hub into one of the USB ports on the PS3 console. The hub allows multiple USB devices to be connected to a single USB port. This is only required if your console has two or fewer USB ports available.

  Insert the "Rock Band" wireless dongle into an open USB port.

  Insert the "Rock Band" microphone cord into an open USB port.

  Insert the drum kit cord into an open USB port.

  Turn on the PlayStation 3 console if it is not already on. You do not need to start "Rock Band" at this point.

  Insert three AA batteries into a guitar controller

  Flip the switch on the back of the controller to the "On" position. This switch does not actually turn the controller itself on; it gives it power so it can be turned on.

  Press the "PS" button on the guitar to turn it on.

  Repeat Steps 6 to 8 to connect a second guitar controller.

  Press the "PS" button on a normal PS3 controller to connect it to the console. This controller is only used by the vocalist player to make menu selections. All other players use their instrument controller to use the menus.

  Start "Rock Band" by selecting its icon from the Xcross Media Bar (XMB) menu or inserting the game disc into the PS3 console. All of the instruments are connected and ready for use.
