Start a game of "MLB 09: The Show" and select the "Road to the Majors" game type at the main menu.
Create your RTTS player by picking either a pitcher or a position player to start with. Decide whether your player is right- or left-handed, his appearance and his batting and throwing stances, and then allocate his attribute points throughout his statistics by following the on-screen prompts.
Enter Spring Training mode with your player to start his rise to the Majors. Choose between "Batting Practice" and "Fielding" modes to improve your player's attributes.
Begin playing in games during the regular season. Your character will gain more positive experience and attribute increases if you manually control him throughout each game. To fully control your character in games, go to the in-game "Character Options" menu and set the "Baserunning" and "Fielding" modes to "All."
Perform well throughout the season to get promoted up to better levels of the minor leagues. Do well in Triple-A ball and you will get promoted to the Major League level. One of the fastest ways to get promoted in "The Show" is to hit for a high average. This requires good timing and a large amount of attribute points spent in the Contact, Vision and Discipline fields. If you are having trouble getting hits regularly, stop trying to pull or push the ball the other way with the right analog stick. Instead, just focus on aiming the barrel of the bat with the left analog stick and pressing the swing button right as the ball crosses the plate.
