How to Get a PS3 Server to Work

The PS3 (PlayStation 3) lets users do much more than play video games. It can play Blu-ray movies and store music, movies, games and photos on its built-in hard drive. In addition, you can set up a server with your home computer so that you can share files over your network. The PS3 is set up to work easily with Windows Media Player 11, but the server capabilities must be enabled on your computer first before your PS3 can locate the server. Once you have enabled it, you can enjoy your computer's content quickly and easily from the PS3.

      Launch Windows Media Player 11 on your home computer.

      Click the "Library" menu and select the "Media Sharing" option.

      Click the box next to "Share Media" so that it is checked.

      Check the box next to the "PlayStation 3" option and then select "Allow."

      Confirm your selection by clocking the "OK" button.

      Turn on your PS3 and and navigate to the "Music," "Video" or "Photo" options. Underneath either of these categories is the "Search for Media Servers" option. Select it and then open the "DLNA Media Server" once it is found. You can now access the content on your computer through through this server.
