Walkthrough to Kill the Mothrakk in Borderlands

"Borderlands" is a post-apocalyptic first-person shooter released in 2009 to critical acclaim. Players are quickly introduced to a fast-paced action-packed high tech wild west setting when they begin "Borderlands," and the monsters you face only get bigger as you progress. One of the hardest monsters in the game is called Mothrakk, an unavoidable encounter found in the main quest mission "Like a Moth to a Flame." Killing Mothrakk requires patience, good timing and intelligent use of a strong shotgun or machine rifle.

Getting to Mothrakk
- In order to kill Mothrakk, you first must have completed the mission "Is T.K. Okay?" found in New Haven County. Select the mission "Like a Moth to a Flame" by going to the New Haven Bounty Board and choosing to accept the mission. Go to the New-U station in Fyrestone and use the fast travel option to go to the Lost Cave. From the Lost Cave, you can go to the Arid Badlands and spawn Mothrakk there.
Spawning Mothrakk
- Mothrakk is not a static spawn like some of the other monsters in "Borderlands." Instead, he has to be spawned by the player by lighting all three torches in the Arid Badlands to lure Mothrakk out. To do this, exit the Lost Cave out into the Arid Badlands and generate a "Runner" vehicle from the Catch-A-Ride station. Go to the waypoints indicated on your radar and light all three torches by activating them while standing next to them.
Basic Mothrakk Strategy
- Mothrakk is not an easy kill. He is a gigantic, fast Rakk with devastating fireballs that you may not have the pure firepower to kill in a head-to-head match. Instead of a direct confrontation, drive your Runner back to the Catch-A-Ride station as fast as you can to avoid Mothrakk's fireballs. Use the covered building for shelter from his attacks. Equip your best machine rifle or shotgun and only attack right after Mothrakk's attacks hit your cover. Jump out from cover, unload as much ammo into Mothrakk as possible, then duck back behind cover. Repeat until Mothrakk is killed.
Advanced Mothrakk Strategy
- While killing Mothrakk with a machine rifle or shotgun works well for players using Roland or Lilith, players using Mordecai or Brick may have to get creative. One advanced way to kill Mothrakk is to keep driving around the Arid Badlands in your Runner, avoiding fireballs and slowly machine-gunning him to death. To do this, drive in a large circle around the three lit torches, being careful to avoid the cliffs dotting the region. Lock your Runner machine gun onto Mothrakk, and then fire away. Check back every 30 seconds or so to make sure your gun hasn't locked on to another Rakk, and Mothrakk should be defeated within a few minutes.
