How to Get a Syringe to Kill Vamp in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Players automatically receive a syringe early in the story of "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots." It is mainly used to boost Snake's psyche meter, but it is also used to end the battle against Vamp in Act 4. The syringe does not directly kill Vamp, but using it on him ends the player's contribution toward Vamp's demise. Another character delivers the final blow which kills Vamp in a cutscene after your administration of the syringe has weakened him.

Instructions

  Equip a rapid fire weapon, such as the PKM, and hold down "L1" to aim your weapon. Aim at Vamp and press "R1" to shoot at him as he moves around the arena.

  Move away from Vamp when he is on the same level as you and wait for him to charge. Reload in this brief window, if necessary.

  Concentrate your fire at Vamp as he charges toward you. Move the cross hair with Vamp as he dodges from side to side. You will knock him down or force him to retreat if you hit him enough.

  Repeat this pattern until Vamp collapses to the ground with no health.

  Press the "Start" button to pause the game and select "Items" from the main menu. Highlight an empty item slot or an item on the list you do not need at this point, such as cigarettes or the camera, and press "X."

  Highlight the syringe on the list that appears and press "X" to move it to your item window. Press the "Circle" button to exit the menu and resume the game.

  Hold down "L2" and scroll through your items with the left control stick until the syringe is in the item window, then release "L2."

  Hold down "R2" and scroll through your weapons until a pistol or other single-handed weapon is in the weapon window, then release "R2."

  Position yourself behind Vamp and wait for him to get up. Hold down "R1" as soon as he stands to grab him from behind. Press the "Triangle" button when the game prompts you to inject Vamp with the syringe and end the battle.
