The Types of Adamantoise on Final Fantasy XIII

In the "Final Fantasy XIII" realm, players can slay enormous two-tusked opponents known as Adamantoise to earn items, such as the Platinum Ingot, that they can sell for more than 100,000 gil. Although only one type of Adamantoise exists, similar enemies include Adamantortoise and Long Gui, which also sometimes drop Platinum Ingots when defeated.
  1. Adamantoise Defenses

    • Players who take on Adamantoise will find that it has more than 5 million hit points, making for a long, trying battle. Adamantoise boasts immunities against most status effects, except for Dispel, Curse and Doom, the last of which you can use to kill Adamantoise without reducing its hit points to zero. It is resistant to all forms of elemental magic. It is always at Level 13.

    Adamantoise Right Foreleg

    • Adamantoise inflicts most of its damage from its forelegs. Unlike the rest of the body, the right forelegs are sensitive to Deprotect, Deshell, Doom, Dispel, Poison, Imperil and Curse. Use physical attacks against the legs for best effect, although both legs demonstrate an average weakness against all forms of elemental magic. The right foreleg's attacks are typically earth-based magic abilities.

    Adamantoise Left Foreleg

    • The left foreleg, like the right foreleg, boasts more than 350,000 hit points. It shares a weakness to the same status effects and magical attacks that plague the right foreleg. The leg is a Level 6 opponent that doles out earth-based magical attacks, although repeatedly attacking the leg will disable it. While players do not need to defeat either leg, disabling the legs through attacks or use of the status effect "Doom" reduces Adamantoise's attack ability, making for an easier fight.

    Attack Strategy and Drops

    • Defeated enemies usually drop items or gil in the "Final Fantasy" universe, and Adamantoise commonly drops the Platinum Ingot. Adamantoise also drops the Trapezohedron less frequently, which can be sold for 10,000 gil at shops. Use Curse on Adamantoise's legs to reduce their hit points before using a mixture of physical and magical attacks to disable them. Use Doom and Curse on Adamantoise's body to weaken it. Finish it off using physical attacks.
