How to Get Power Armor Early in the Game in Fallout

In "Fallout 3," you are not allowed to equip Power Armor until you receive proper training from one of the Brotherhood of Steel Paladins at the Citadel, the Brotherhood's headquarters. However, you can start collecting Power Armor quite early in the game if you know where to look. This ultimately saves you money in the long run because buying Power Armor from the Brotherhood's equipment shop is very expensive. Once you get the Power Armor, you can store it in a locker at your home in Megaton or Tenpenny Tower, depending on which route you take with either side quest.

Instructions

  Play through the game until you get the "Following in His Footsteps" quest. This is part of the main storyline, not a side quest, so you will end up doing this to make the plot progress. Follow the map marker after completing the quest's tasks in Megaton.

  Go to Chevy Chase North, one of the metro stations in the city. Your map has this marked when you are doing this quest, so follow it until you get to the station. Take a right out of the station -- your map will have a new marker at this point -- and walk forward until you are ambushed by Super Mutants.

  Fight off the Super Mutants as best you can until Sarah Lyons and the Brotherhood of Steel arrive to help you. Follow them down an alleyway and, just before they take a right around corner, look behind the dumpster to find the corpse of a Brotherhood of Steel Knight.

  Examine the corpse and you will be able to take his Power Armor, helmet, a Brotherhood of Steel dog tag and a Laser Rifle. Follow Lyons to the Galaxy News Radio courtyard and a Super Mutant Behemoth will attack you.

  Help the Brotherhood of Steel take the Super Mutant Behemoth down. Invariably, some of the Knights die during this battle, so you can collect their Power Armor and use it to repair the first set you got earlier.
