How to Delete a Demo From a PS3

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) is designed to be an all-in-one media platform, with movies, music, pictures and gaming. The PS3 also comes with access to Sony's PlayStation Network that can be used to download content, such as game demos, directly to the system. The PlayStation 3 has a limited amount of storage however, and as more content accumulates, it becomes necessary to delete items, such as old demos.

Instructions

  1. Delete Individual Demos

    • 1

Start the PlayStation 3 and sign in to your profile. From the main XMB menu navigate to the "Games" tab. All downloaded games and game demos will be listed under this tab.

    • 2

Scroll down to the demo you wish to remove from the system. Press the "Triangle" button to bring up additional options. Scroll down to the "Delete" option and press "X" on the controller.

    • 3

Confirm the selection by pressing "X" again. The PlayStation 3 should delete the demo.

    Format the Hard Drive

    • 4

Plug an external hard drive or universal serial bus (USB) flash drive into the PlayStation 3. Formatting the drive will not only clear out any demos, but will delete all other files on the hard drive as well, including saved games. If you wish to keep your saves, you will need to copy them to an external drive. PlayStation Plus members can also use their online storage for backing up saves.

    • 5

Navigate to the "Games" tab. Press up on the controller until you reach "Saved Data Utility," press "X."

    • 6

Highlight the saved game files you wish to backup and press "Triangle" on the controller. Choose "Copy" from the menu and press "X." Select the destination for the file. Continue transferring saved games to the backup location.

    • 7

Go to the "Settings" menu from the XMB and select "System Settings." Scroll down and choose the "Format Utility" option. The PlayStation requires you to confirm the choice twice. Once confirmed, select "Quick Format" and select "Yes" to continue. The PlayStation will clear the hard drive of all data including installed game files, saved games and game demos.
