Instructions
Power down the PS3 device and wait for the red light beneath the power button to display. Wait at least 10 seconds before rebooting.
Press the power button and hold it down. You will hear an initial beep that indicates the system has powered on, and a second beep after five to seven seconds that indicates the PS3 has reset the video-out to the default low-resolution.
Power on your television. Select the input that matches the connecting cable from your PS3. If you are using HDMI, composite or component, for example, you will need to press "input" on your television and select the appropriate video setting.
Select "Display Settings" under the "Settings" menu on the PS3. Under "Video Output Settings" your default video will be set to 480i resolution. Select this option and then choose a new video-out setting: Component, Composite, AV Multi or HDMI.
Choose a new default resolution for the PlayStation 3 under your video-out choice. If your television supports high definition, you will likely want to pick either 720i, 720p, 1080i or 1080p resolution, depending on your TV. Select "OK" and the PlayStation 3 will revert to the new video setting.
