Instructions for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

"Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" is an action adventure game that roughly crosses "Tomb Raider" and "Gears of War" style gameplay. Nathan Drake, the player character, is on a quest to find El Dorado, the lost city of gold. Nathan inherited a ring from his ancestor, Sir Francis Drake, which is inscribed with the coordinates for the lost city. Mercenaries, pirates and rival treasure hunters attempt to stop him every step of the way. Most of the controls for "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" are similar to other action adventure games.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the left analog stick to move your character. Press the right analog stick to move the camera.

    • 2

Press "Select" to open the diary and map. The diary documents what you have done so far and your current objective. "Uncharted" is a linear game, so you can only progress further by completing each objective. Pressing the "L2" button displays a visual clue for the location of the next objective.

    • 3

Press "Up" on the left analog stick to climb up ropes, ladders or to grab onto ledges. Press "X" to jump. Pressing "X" causes you to pull yourself up after grabbing a ledge. Pressing "Circle" causes you to drop from the ledge you are grabbing. If your current objective appears out of reach, it usually means you passed where you are supposed to climb up.

    • 4

Press "Circle" to hide behind objects or roll (only when running). Press "L1" to lean out of cover to aim. Almost any object large enough to crouch behind can be used for cover. Taking cover is an important aspect of combat. In almost every fight, you are heavily outnumbered and outgunned. You do not have to lean out of cover to fire your weapon. You only need to lean out of cover to aim.

    • 5

Press "Left," "Right" or "Down" on the direction pad to change your weapon. Pressing "Left" selects your pistol. Pressing "Right" selects your rifle or shotgun. Pressing "Down" selects your grenades. Press "Up" on the direction pad or "R2" to reload your currently held weapon.

    • 6

Press "R1" to fire your gun. Most combat in "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" is medium to long range. Shooting an enemy in the head does more damage.

    • 7

Press "L1" and "R1" simultaneously to throw a grenade. Rotate the entire controller around the horizontal axis to adjust the aim of your grenade. Grenades are primarily useful if enemies are clustered together or hiding behind cover.

    • 8

Press "Square" to perform a melee attack. If you sneak up behind an enemy and use a melee attack it results in a guaranteed stealth kill. Melee combat is usually a last resort tactic.

    • 9

Press "Triangle" to interact with objects. Most of the objects you can interact with are levers, doors and hatches. The "L2" button goal hints also tend to show the object you are supposed to interact with to proceed further into the level.

    • 10

Twist or rotate the controller to help maintain your balance. This control is only important during some platforming sections of "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune." You can visually see Nathan having trouble keeping his balance and how you should compensate to fix it. For example, if Nathan starts leaning too far to the right, then rotate the controller to the left.

    • 11

Earn reward points by completing the medal tasks. Medals refer to various challenges to complete the game. These points can be spent in the Rewards section of the menu to purchase new skins, visual effects, the weapon selection menu, unlimited ammo cheat or the ability to kill all enemies in one hit. You cannot use points or see what the medal challenges are before your second playthrough, but you can earn points on your first playthrough. Most of these require finding a specific number of treasure chests, killing enemies with a specific weapon, killing enemies with headshots or completing the game on each difficulty level.
