Help and Game Tips for Assassin's Creed

In "Assassin's Creed," shady corporation Abstergo sends a man of the near future into the body of his Crusades-era ancestor, Altair ibn La'Ahad, to replay certain genetic memories. Altair must assassinate political enemies while retaining stealth by blending into crowds, hiding and scaling buildings. The game's mechanics call for mastery of Altair's techniques and arsenal to avoid desynchronization with Altair's memories, or death.
  1. Avoiding Trouble

    • The ubiquitous guards of the "Assassin's Creed" series will become alert to your presence in response to any of several actions, though some of these are less obvious than others. Throwing a civilian into a guard, running into a guard while sprinting or tackling a guard will all cause that guard to attack you. Brush a guard while riding a horse, and you will be chased. If you run into a line of guards while riding a horse, you will be thrown. Blend into groups of civilians as much as possible to avoid attracting the attention of guards, though while doing so be careful not to run into anyone carrying a vase or crate. It will break, and guards will notice.

    Eliminating Patrols

    • When you need to take out a patrol of guards, blend in first to approach, and then use your hidden blade to assassinate the leader. This guard, who is as strong as a Templar, is the most powerful of the group, so taking him out first will make dispatching the others an easier task.

    Surviving

    • Emptying the synch bar effectively results in the game ending. To minimize risk, run from any fighting you're engaged in once the synch bar runs low. While playing through the storyline for the first time, make sure to minimize civilian casualties, as these reduce the synch bar. Finally, keep in mind that periodic checkpoints, reached during missions and at certain points on the map, will refill the synch bar.

    Acrobatics

    • "Assassin's Creed" has many techniques involved in navigating city landscapes. To accurately aim your jump direction, position the camera directly behind you and push forward on the left analog stick in either the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 version. Altair will jump straight forward. When on a rooftop, look for small flocks of birds. These indicate that a haystack or haycart is below, and if you jump you'll have a safe landing. When leaping from a high building and you see you won't make it, hold the grasp button -- the "Circle" button on a PS3 controller, the "B" button on an Xbox 360 controller. You may catch a windowsill or other ledge before reaching the bottom.
