How to Compile a Homebrew PKG for the PS3

A PS3 PKG file is a package file that contains a game or other homebrew software and acts as a catalog for the PlayStation 3 (commonly abbreviated PS3). To be able to install games and software from PKG files on your PS3 console, you must have the custom PS3 firmware from Geohot installed. Compiling a PKG for the PS3 on your computer requires a free tool and the game or software you want to install.

Instructions

  Open the Web browser on your computer and type "www.ps3hax.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=562" in the address bar. Press "Enter" to navigate to the website.

  Click on the blue "Download" button and save the archive on your hard disk drive. Right-click on the archive and select the "Extract All" option. Select a folder to extract the tool to and click on the "Extract" button.

  Go to the "Start" menu and click on "Computer" to start the file browser. Navigate to one of your drives, right-click on the white space in the right pane, select "New" and click on "Folder" to create a new folder. Type a name for your new folder and press "Enter."

  You now have an ̶0;Install Package Files̶1; option in your game menu. Now to install the .pkg files from this site, simply copy the .pkg file onto your USB device and install it the ̶0;Install Package Files.̶1;

  Use the file browser to copy the game or software to the folder you just created. Go to the folder where you extracted the tool and double-click on the "PS3FOXX.exe" file to start the compiler. Note that the graphical user interface is in French.

  Click on the "MakePkg - Methode fail0verflow" tab, select the version of firmware you are using on your PS3 in the "Firmware" section and enter a name for your PKG file in the "Nom du package" text box.

  Click on the "..." button and select the folder containing the game or homebrew software. Click on the "BUILD" button to start compiling the PKG file. You can find the file in the folder you use to store the game.
