Open Manager
All versions of OpenSplit, including v1.1, need Open Manager to work. The freeware, open source Open Manager program ̵1; created by the independent developer known as ̶0;moh.sakhaii̶1; ̵1; is a utility that helps users manage their game backups, or games that have been downloaded or copied to the PS3's hard drive. Open Manager helps users copies games files, check game files, delete games, manage game patches and correct file access permissions.
OpenSplit Basics
OpenSplit is a PC utility that, as its name implies, splits files into manageable pieces. This tool splits up PC game files that are bigger than 4 GB in size. This allows gamers to use these game files, which would be too big as a whole piece, with Open Manager on the PS3. In all its versions, OpenSplit acts as a transfer tool to help copy game files from the PC to the PS3.
Use
Once you've downloaded OpenSplit v1.1, open the program and select ̶0;Split BIG files to .666xx.̶1; This prompts you to select a folder with your games. When you've selected the folder, the program will split the main folder and all its subfolders for use in Open Manager, renaming file folders automatically. Click ̶0;Merge .666xx files to BIG̶1; and choose a game file to merge files that have been split.
Downloading and Considerations
OpenSplit debuted with version 1.0. At the time of publication, the program is up to version 1.2. Each version performs the same basic functions, though the more recent versions feature improved stability. Free file hosting sites such as MediaFire and Megaupload offer the program, which is roughly 8 MB in size, for no-cost download. Jailbreaking your PS3 may void your warranty with Sony.
