Co-op Issues With Dead Rising 2 for the PS3

"Dead Rising 2" continues the story of "Dead Rising" and introduces several new gameplay mechanics, including the ability to create unique new items and online co-op play. The online co-op option requires that you have an active Internet connection, be logged on to the PlayStation Network and have all updates and patches for your PS3 and "Dead Rising 2."
  1. Drop-In, Drop-Out Co-Op

    • The co-op play in "Dead Rising 2" allows other players to join your game whenever you are playing. The player will be confined to the same area of Fortune City you are currently in and will assist you in killing zombies, rescuing survivors and completing missions. The player joining your game will not cause you to lose progress in the game or affect the overall story line you are currently following. The other players can join or leave your game whenever they choose. You may also choose to ban a player or turn off co-op gameplay in your game from the start menu,

    Problems with Co-op Play

    • While "Dead Rising 2" allows continuous co-op play, some players report several problems with the drop-in, drop-out system. Players who join another game will receive in-game money and prestige points for their contribution to your game, but will not have the ability to save their progress in the story mode. Some side missions can be timed or require that you keep a specific survivor alive. You cannot control the actions of other players and can only hope their goals will be the same as yours. A player who kills a survivor or keeps you from progressing forward in the game because he is exploring an area can prevent you from completing certain missions.

    Connectivity Problems

    • Both the host and the joining player must have a stable Internet connection to utilize online co-op. Disable any firewalls and close any other programs that may be utilizing bandwidth while playing "Dead Rising 2" through co-op. Bandwidth refers to the amount of Internet traffic that is transmitting through your home account. Movie streaming programs, instant messengers and even smart phones can usurp control of your Internet connection's bandwidth. A poor connection due to bandwidth issues can result in dropped games or failure to connect to another player. Your Internet connection may be the result of drops and poor performance as well. Test your Internet connection speed by visiting Speedtest.net and click the "Begin Test" button. This will generate a packet of information that can be sent and tracked to a nearby server and test your upload and download speeds.

    Download All Updates

    • 'Dead Rising 2" has several update packs that are available as downloadable content. While you do not have to subscribe to the downloadable content to play "Dead Rising 2's" online co-op mode, you do need to download the patches that allow your game to connect to players who have purchased this additional content.
