How to Set Up WinSCP and PS3 FTP

If you have a Sony PlayStation 3 with a custom firmware or operating system installed (as you could do with early versions of the console) then you can log into the PS3 via the secure shell (SSH) and the secure copy process (SCP). WinSCP is a Windows client that connects to secure servers and can connect with your PS3. This will allow you to transfer files easily to the games console, which is useful if you are loading homebrew games, applications or want to transfer multimedia.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open WinSCP and click "Session."

    • 2

Enter the PS3's IP in the "Host Name." You can find the IP address on your PS3 by opening "Settings," then "System Settings," then "System Information" and then checking the IP in System Information.

    • 3

Enter the user name and password for your PS3. This will be designated by the firmware or OS you are using. Check the documentation for the individual settings if you are unsure.

    • 4

Click the ".." and choose a location for the secure key to be stored.

    • 5

      Click "Save," and then "Login."
