The Basics
"The Lord of the Rings: Conquest" is divided into two campaigns: the good campaign and the evil campaign. During either campaign, you will spend the majority of it controlling either a warrior, an archer, a scout or a mage, all of which were characters appearing in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Both campaigns feature famous battles from the film franchise. The good campaign features eight missions, while the evil campaign features seven missions. In the evil campaign, you enter an alternate universe in which Sauron has recovered the One Ring.
The Good Campaign
The good campaign starts at Helms Deep, and requires you to battle Orcs who are trying to ascend a wall you are guarding. The next mission takes you to Isengard where you must take control of a command post. Ultimately, you will be able to take control of Gandalf and fight against Saruman. After defeating Saruman, you will proceed to the third mission: the Mines of Moria. This mission concludes with a battle against the Balrog, the demonic being with a whip featured in the first "Lord of the Rings" film. The fourth mission requires you to escort Frodo through the city of Osgiliath. In the fifth mission, you must defend the gates that lead into the city of Gondor. The sixth mission requires you to kill Oliphants -- which resemble giant elephants -- before killing the Witch King. Mission seven requires you to free captives being held at Minas Morgul. This level allows you to play as Aragorn. The final level lets you control either Gandalf, Legolas, Gimli or Aragorn as you battle against the Mouth of Sauron.
The Evil Campaign
The evil campaign starts at Mount Doom, where your main objective is to kill Frodo and recapture the Ring. The second mission takes place in the city of Osgiliath, where you must break down the gates and kill Faramir. The third mission allows you to play as Saruman. Your objective is to burn down the white tree of Gondor and take control of the throne room. The fourth mission sends you to the Mines of Moria. Within this level, you must resurrect the Balrog and kill Gimli. The fifth mission requires you to kill Aragorn while also destroying four enemy camps. The sixth mission takes place within a courtyard, where you must ultimately kill Legolas and Elrond. You must also take the Ring of Power from Elrond and deliver it to Sauron. The final mission take place in the Shire, where you mist kill 50 Hobbits and Gandalf.
Considerations
Before you can play the evil campaign within "Lord of the Rings: Conquest," you must first play through the good campaign. Defeating the good campaign will unlock the evil version. Chris Watters of GameSpot.com states that both campaigns are "aggravatingly hard" due to the "many cheap ways" you can die. "Lord of the Rings: Conquest" can be played online, supporting up to 16 players. Once online, you can play a version of capture the flag, as well as compete in death matches.
