How to Replace PS3 Controller Parts

You can replace parts inside your Playstation 3 controller if they are not working correctly, but you will probably void your warranty on it if you open it to replace the parts. Your controller has a circuit board and several buttons and cords, and you can exchange some of the parts for new ones to fix the issues that you're encountering with the controller.

      Disconnect the Playstation 3 controller from the console. Turn the controller so its back faces up.

      Remove all of the screws present on the PS3 controller and set them aside. Remove the bottom half of the controller's casing. Disconnect the controller's battery from the circuit board. Remove the single screw in the bottom, center of the circuit board.

      Push the shoulder buttons up and away from the board. Pull the circuit board out of the controller. Connect a new battery to the circuit board if you're swapping out the battery in the controller.

      Remove the white plastic underneath the circuit board to access the PS3 buttons. Pull the existing buttons out of the casing and press the new buttons in to place. Put the circuit board back in the controller and lower the shoulder buttons. Put the bottom center screw in the controller. Put the circuit board and battery in the controller. Return the bottom casing to the controller and screw it into place.
