Mission Objectives of Call of Duty: Black Ops

"Call of Duty: Black Ops" has 15 missions to complete. The game's campaign is narrated by Captain Alex Mason, an S.O.G. and CIA operative. The Studies and Observation Group, or S.O.G., took over covert operations from the CIA during the Vietnam War. Players hear Mason being questioned by an unseen interrogator, and these questions set the scene for each mission. Some of the missions involve actual historic events and characters.
  1. Missions 1 to 4

    • The first mission, "Operation 40," takes place in Cuba in 1961. Its ultimate objective is to assassinate Cuba's leader, Fidel Castro, during the Bay of Pigs invasion. Players successfully completing the mission win a "Sacrifice" or "Death to Dictators" trophy. Other objectives include evading the police. In the next mission, "Vorkuta," you must escape from a Russian labor camp and protect the character Reznov, a Red Army captain who forms an alliance with Alex Mason. After escaping from Vorkuta, the third mission, "U.S.D.D.," takes you to the Pentagon, where you are directed by President John F. Kennedy to eliminate Dragovich, a Russian General who is a threat to American national security. The "Executive Order" mission takes you back to the Soviet Union where, as a member of the CIA, you need to infiltrate a missile launch facility in Baikonur, destroy missiles and kill Dragovich.

    Missions 5 to 8

    • The fifth mission, "S.O.G.," takes place in South Vietnam. Here you have to save CIA operative Jason Hudson and defend the city of Khe Sanh against the North Vietnamese. You also have to destroy all the tanks. The mission titled "The Defector" happens during the Tet Offensive. Your goal is to track down a defector, who turns out to be Reznov. You also need to reach a landing zone, defend it, and then get to a boat. The next mission, "Numbers," is set in Kowloon, Hong Kong. Here you must torture, but then escape with, prisoner Dr. Clark and CIA agent Grigori Weaver. You must also escape from a Spetsnaz, or Soviet Army, attack. "Project Nova," the eighth mission, is a flashback to Reznov's imprisonment in Vorkuta. As Reznov, you don't take on a mission as much as play through the events of his capture following a battle with the German military.

    Missions 9 to 12

    • The ninth mission, "Victor Charlie," involves escaping the Viet Cong after surviving a helicopter crash in enemy territory. In the "Crash Site" mission, the action moves to the Vietnam border with Laos. Here you must guide a boat upriver to find a crashed Soviet cargo plane containing missile launchers. You must destroy any enemies and keep them away from the crash site. In "WMD," you must search for weapons of mass destruction in the Soviet Union and destroy the facilities where they are made before escaping safely. To complete the 12th mission, "Payback," you must escape capture by the Viet Cong, destroy Soviet bases and kill Russian officer Kravchenko.

    Missions 13 to 15

    • In the "Rebirth" mission, you must search for Friedrich Steiner, and confront and kill him. Steiner is the German inventor of the Nova 6 nerve gas that kills people in seconds. The next level, "Revelations," is similar to the third mission. It takes place in the U.S. National Security Agency facility, where the player, as Alex Mason, is interrogated and discovers some revelations about what he has been involved in so far. In the last mission, "Redemption," the objective is to attack the Russian ship Rusalka and prevent Nova 6 from being released over the United States.
