How to Patch PSN Games to Work on PS3 CFW

Custom firmware can add many new features on the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3), but it does come at a cost. While using custom firmware (CFW), certain PS3 games cannot be used unless you update your PS3 to the most current PS3 firmware. This includes the games you paid for using the PlayStation Network (PSN) store. There are patches available that return these games to a playable state.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect an external hard drive or USB flash/pen drive to the computer's USB port. Click the "Open folder to view files" option from the Autorun window that comes up.

    • 2

Download the PSN game patch file for the game that needs to be patched from the download mirror. Drag the downloaded patch file onto the open external drive window.

    • 3

Click the "Eject" button on the toolbar and unplug the external drive.

    • 4

Plug the drive into the PS3's USB port and select the "Install Package Files" option from the PS3 menu. The next screen shows the package files on the external storage.

    • 5

Select the PSN game on the PS3 menu to launch the game on the PS3. It should now work on your CFW installation.
