How to Replace PKG Instead of Eboot.Bin

Custom firmware can give you the ability to play PS3 games from the internal hard drive of the PS3. Some games may require a higher firmware than your custom firmware provides. The game will not work without replacing the eboot file in which the game was installed. Instead of using a file browser to find the eboot, you can install a PKG file that replaces the eboot file automatically.

Things You'll Need

  • Game-specific PKG file
  • USB flash drive

Instructions

    • 1

Download the PKG file that is associated with the PS3 game that needs its eboot file replaced.

    • 2

Insert the USB flash drive into your computer' USB slot and double-click the flash drive icon that comes up on your computer's desktop.

    • 3

Drag the PKG file into the open USB flash drive window and the file will be saved onto the flash drive.

    • 4

Unplug the USB flash drive and insert it into the PS3. Select the "Install Package Files" option on the PS3 menu.

    • 5

Select the PKG file you saved onto the USB flash drive from the next screen. The PKG file is installed, automatically replacing the eboot file in the game that it was downloaded for.

    • 6

Start the game you installed the PKG file for and the game will now work on your PS3 firmware.
