How to Hook Up Charter to PS3

The Sony PlayStation 3 shifts focus from a single-player console to a multi-player, multimedia gaming device. You can play games alone or with friends, watch movies from a media server set up on your computer or watch streaming movies through NetFlix as long as you're connected to a high-speed Internet connection. Charter Communications offers high-speed Internet in a variety of speeds ranging from 1 Mbps in their "Lite" version to 60 Mbps with their "Ultra60" version.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your modem, supplied by Charter, to a wireless router with an RJ-45 cable to share the Internet connection with multiple devices

    • 2

Turn on your Sony PlayStation 3, then click "Settings" and choose "Network Settings."

    • 3

Click "Wired" if connecting your PlayStation 3 directly to the router with an RJ-45 cable or "Wireless."

    • 4

Click "Scan" to scan the area for wireless network broadcasts. Select the router linked to your Charter modem. Enter a password if required.

    • 5

Select "Auto-Detect" for the Ethernet operation mode and "IP Address" setting.

    • 6

Click "Do Not Set" for "DHCP," then choose "Automatic" for DNS Setting. Set UPnP to "Enable" to allow video and voice communication with the device, which is necessary for the best online gaming experience.
