How to Make Movies on LittleBigPlanet

In the PlayStation 3 (PS3) game "LittleBigPlanet 2," players are given the ability to create custom-made worlds and game levels. One of the benefits of playing the second game in the series is the vast improvement in control that you have over the customization of your levels, even more so than in the original "LittleBigPlanet." Arguably, the most important example of this improvement is the ability to make your own movies and cut scenes. This is accomplished through the use of an in-game sequencer.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Basic Logic portion of your Menu.

    • 2

Select the Sequencer and place it in the background of your level. The Sequencer is like a storyboard for your movie, and will manage the tempo of your movie. You can make things happen on a step-by-step basis by placing them on the Sequencer in order.

    • 3

Place a movie camera at the top of your Sequencer. This means that as soon as the sequence begins, the game will switch to that camera. Extend the right end of the camera's bar so that it reaches the end of the Sequencer. This will make the camera roll for the entire length of the sequence. Select the camera and choose the angle that you will be shooting the scene from. For example, let's say that you're making a movie about a boy and a girl.

    • 4

Place a boy Sackbot and a girl Sackbot next to each other. Open the menu for each of them, select the "Advanced Logic" sub-menu and select the "Sequencer" option to create Sequencers for each character.

    • 5

Drag the new Sequencers to a point either above or below the Sequencer with the camera on it. You will want to match up the edges of the Sequencers as best as you can. This doesn't serve any in-game function, but it will make it easier for you to time your characters' actions with the beginning and end of the movie.

    • 6

Select an emote action (wave, dance, etc.) from the menu and place it at the beginning of your male Sackbot's Sequencer. This means that as soon as the camera starts rolling, your male Sackbot will wave, dance, or do what ever you told it to do. You can shorten or lengthen how long he does this by shortening and lengthening the right side of the emote bar on the Sequencer. For the sake of this example, move the right side of the emote bar halfway down the Sequencer.

    • 7

Do the same with your female Sackbot. Select an emote and put it on her Sequencer. However, instead of putting it at the beginning, put it right after the male Sackbot's emote ends, and drag the right border of the bar to the right until it reaches the end of the Sequencer. This will make her begin her emote right after the male Sackbot finishes his.

    • 8

Play the movie. It should look like your male Sackbot is emoting for a few seconds, and then your female Sackbot emotes back in response. This is extremely basic, but it lays the groundwork for all the other things you can do. You can add multiple cameras to the original Sequencer for scene changes, add speaking parts to your male and female Sackbots' Sequencers for dialogue, program your Sackbots to move around, and much more. The possibilities really are endless.
