How to Throw an Alley Oop in NBA 2K9 for PS3

The alley-oop is a momentum-changing basketball play where one player throws the ball near the basket for another player to score on a slam dunk. In the PS3 game "NBA 2K9," players can perform the move as long as another player is lined up for the shot. The shot itself is an easy button combination, but you must have your players properly set up for it to be successful and use it sparingly. If you use the alley-oop too much, the defense will pick up on it and block the shot.

Instructions

  Pass the ball out to an open player the perimeter if you are in a half-court offense. On a fast break, pass to a player ahead of you.

  Hold "R2" to run and get open.

  Look toward the basket for a player. The player should be heading toward the hoop or running off a screen, and must be a few steps from the basket. If a defensive player is facing him, look for another open player or wait until he gets open.

  Hold "L2" down and press "X." Your player will pass the ball toward the basket. If the other player is open, he will jump up and jam the ball into the basket.
