How to Be a Competitive Sniper in Modern Warfare 2 for PS3

"Modern Warfare 2" for the Sony PlayStation 3 gives you a bounty of options as you select your preferred guns and equipment before taking on peers in online multi-player matches. The sniper class of weapons can be the most effective, but is hard to master. You can often get a kill in one shot, but you must have a steady hand and make the most of the available perks, equipment and attachments to earn a high kill-to-death ratio in the game.

  Practice with your gun before entering online multi-player matches. Enter the multi-player maps on your console and play alone to get the feel for your sniper rifle and to practice your aim on some targets.

  Use the "Full Metal Jacket" attachment for your gun. This will enhance the bullet penetration, allowing you to take out enemies hiding behind barrels and other objects. You can shoot foes through some walls, too.

  Choose the "Sleight of Hand" and "Stopping Power" perks. The former will let you reload quicker, and as you level up it will also speed up how quickly you aim down the sights of your guns. The latter helps you kill enemies with fewer shots by making each shot more powerful.

  Equip claymores. These trip mines are motion activated, so you can place one behind your sniping perch to protect your blind side from sneak attacks.

  Scan the area rather than keep the scope up to your eyes. If you only look through your scope, this will greatly limit your field of vision and you are bound to miss some targets.

  Learn the best sniping location on each map. Again, entering the maps alone on your console to figure out the lay of the land is your best bet.
