How to Use the Memory Card Utility

The Sony PlayStation 3 is backward compatible with PlayStation 2 and PlayStation games, which means you can play PS1 and PS2 games on it. If you want to save a game file from a PS1 or PS2 game on your PlayStation 3, you can use the memory card utility to set up internal memory cards, so they will save game files for games other than PlayStation 3 games.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "PS" button located in the center of your PlayStation 3 controller. This will bring up your PlayStation 3's main menu.

    • 2

Use the controller to navigate to the "Games" column of the main menu screen. Scroll down in the "Games" column until you reach "Memory Card Utility." Press the "X" button to select it.

    • 3

Select the "Create New Internal Memory Card" option. Select either "Internal Memory Card (PS2)" or "Internal Memory Card," depending on what kind of game you want to create a memory card for.

    • 4

Press the "X" button to edit the name of the memory card and select "OK" to confirm and create the internal memory card.

    • 5

Highlight the internal memory card you want to use and press the "Triangle" button to manage the options on the card. Select the "Assign Slot" option and select which slot the new internal memory card will appear in when you save games. You will now be able to use the memory card to save game files from PS 2 and PS 1 games.
