How to Unlock PlayStation3 Games

The Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3), which launched on November 11, 2006, is a multipurpose entertainment system that plays games, DVDs and Blu-ray discs, and works as a limited web browser. Hundreds of games for all age groups are available for the system in different genres. Playing through PS3 games allows players to unlock trophies that commemorate the accomplishment of in-game achievements. Accessed using the XrossMediaBar (XMB), trophies showcase your gaming prowess to other gamers on the PlayStation Network (PSN).

Instructions

  Play through the game from beginning to end. The majority of trophies are unlocked by finishing levels and overcoming in-game challenges. You can unlock four different types of trophies -- bronze, silver, gold and platinum -- depending on how well you played the game.

  Search every level of the game carefully for hidden items and achievements. Playing through individual levels trying to reach the end as quickly as possible will cause you to overlook hidden objectives. Trophies earned for completing difficult challenges will earn more prestige for your Trophy Collection.

  Replay through the game several times to unlock all available trophies. Check the Your Trophies Collection screen found under Games in the XMB menu to determine what trophies you have left to unlock in a game. Unlocking all trophies for a game will award you a platinum trophy, symbolizing your mastering of that title.
