How to Troubleshoot a Wireless Controller on Guitar Hero for the PS3

Troubleshooting Zero Connectivity

  Connect the wireless receiver to the first USB port on the front of the system.

  Press the PS button on the front of the guitar under the Star Power button. If one solid light does not come on, then it did not sync properly. Try pressing the small button on the front of the receiver. The light on the receiver should blink fast. Press the PS button again. If the light on the receiver is still blinking fast, then press the button on the front of the receiver one more time.

  Move the PS3 away from interference. Turn off anything near the PS3 that uses a wireless transmitter. Large metal objects can also interfere with the connection. If the PS3 is inside an entertainment center, remove it and try syncing the guitar again.

  Disconnect the wireless receiver. Wait 10 seconds, then reconnect the receiver and restart the PS3.

  Vary your distance to the console. If you are far away, move a little closer; if you are close, move back.

Troubleshooting Partial Connectivity

  Verify that your guitar is connected to the PS3. If it is, you will see a red indicator light above the "Star Power" button.

  Hold the strum bar. If the strum is registering extra hits, try keeping a finger on the strum bar while playing instead of flicking it with your fingers.

  Calibrate the whammy bar. If you are having issues with the whammy bar, exit the game and launch it making sure the bar is not pressed in or down when the game starts.

  Open the battery compartment and check that the batteries are inserted properly. To view the batteries, press and hold the small silver button at the bottom of the fret board. While holding the button, slide the compartment cover downward.

  Replace batteries with a fresh or fully charged set.
