How to Play Movies on a PS3 From a PC

The PlayStation 3 console is the second Sony game system to permit wireless media sharing with a Windows PC, the first being the PlayStation Portable. For either device, this service must be enabled on your PC through Windows Media Player. Third-party applications are available which automate the process of enabling and connecting your PS3 to your PC, such as PS3 Media Server. However, these programs are not tested or approved by Sony or Windows.

Instructions

      Turn on PS3 and PC and log in to your accounts. Use the administrator login on your PC.

      Use the joystick to navigate left to the PS3 "Settings" menu. Click the "X" button to open the "System Settings" and click "X" again to check "Enable WMA Playback."

      Click "Start" and click "Windows Media Player" from the menu. Instructions may vary per on your computer.

      Click "Library."

      Press "Stream" and then click "Allow Internet Access To Home Media."

      Click "Allow Internet Access To Home Media" in the window that pops up.

      Restart and log in to both your PC and PS3.

      Scroll left to "Video" on the PS3 main menu.

      Locate your computer by name on the "Video" menu (for example, "Jack's PC").

      Scroll down to highlight your PC's name. Press "X" to access your computer's files and folders.

      Navigate through your computers folders and locate a video file. For example, click "Jack's PC," then "My Videos" to open the file "Astroboy.wmv."

      Highlight the file name and press "X" to play the movie.
