How Do You Join a Game in Progress for Grand Theft Auto IV for the PS3 Online?

"Grand Theft Auto IV" is a video game produced by Rockstar Games in which you play as a criminal who must complete various tasks, such as stealing cars, robbing people of their money and making drug runs. The game was released in 2008 for multiple gaming platforms, including the PlayStation 3. "Grand Theft Auto IV" was the first game in the series that could be played online. To access an online multiplayer game in "Grand Theft Auto IV" for the Playstation 3, simply start a single-player mission and join a game that is already in progress.

  Open your character's cell phone to bring up the mobile phone menu.

  Scroll down to the "Multiplayer" option using your directional pad.

  Click the "X" button to open the "Multiplayer" menu. A short tutorial about how to play the game online is shown.

  Click the "X" button to open a "Player Match" to play an unranked online game or scroll down to "Ranked Match" and click the "X" button to play a ranked online game, in which your score will be placed on the Playstation Network's leader board. There is also a "Party Mode" option, in which you create a game of your choice and wait for others to join in. Do not choose "Party Mode" option to join a game already in progress.

  Highlight your match of choice, which includes various "Team Modes" (you join a team and play against other teams); "Cooperative Modes" (you and teammates work together to accomplish a goal); "Competitive Modes" (you play against other players in competition); and "Race Modes" (you race against other players in a car or on a motorcycle).

  Click the "X" button to begin playing your online game. The Playstation Network searches all open games and automatically puts you into a game that is already in progress.
