How to Use the Mobile Phone on Grand Theft Auto 4

One of the new features in "Grand Theft Auto IV" is the addition of a "cell phone" used by your in-game character. This cell phone is used to contact other non-playable characters in the game, which allows you to partake in missions that advance the game's story. The cell phone is available early on in the game and using it is not that different than using an actual cell phone in real life.

Instructions

  Press the "Up" button on your controller at any time during a game to bring up the main mobile phone interface on screen. The phone will appear on the right side of your screen, opposite the directional map.

  Press "Up" again to bring up the dial pad. This allows you to dial phone numbers the same way you would on a regular phone. If you know the phone number of an in-game character by memory, use the number buttons on the virtual phone to dial the number and select "Send" to call. You can also enter cheat codes in this menu.

  Select "Messages" on the phone interface to send and receive text messages from in-game characters. Highlight a message to read it, and select "Reply" to send a reply. Note that the reply is typed for you by the game; you do not get to type the reply yourself.

  Select "Phone Book" to view a list of stored numbers in your character's mobile phone. You can select an in-game character by name and select the "Call" button to call that person.

  Select "Multi-player" to engage in a multi-player match. This will take you out of the main "Grand Theft Auto 4" story mode and allow you to play online with people all over the world.
