How to Play Burnout Paradise for PS3 Online

Criterion Games built a seamless online experience into its 2008 video game "Burnout Paradise." Rather than have a separate online game, you can join online groups at any point during the game. This places the other online players into the same world with you, allowing you to participate in races, stunts and other events together. After initial setup, you can connect to the game server whenever you feel like joining other players in seconds.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your PlayStation 3 user account. If you have never set up your console for using your Internet connection, go to the network settings menu and input your Wi-Fi router information.

    • 2

Put your "Burnout Paradise" game disc in the PS3 and select its icon in the "Game" menu to start loading the game. The game will install if you haven't played before, and then will ask to download updates. You need these updates to play online, and some are quite large, so the download may take a while.

    • 3

Start the game by pressing the "Start" button at each introductory screen. If you're new to the game, the game will ask if you have an EA account. This account is not the same as your PS3 account. You need an EA account to play online, so log in or create a new account by following the prompts. After this, you will find yourself in the game world.

Drive around for a while and get a feel for the game mechanics before leaping into online play. When you're ready to join other players, you can find an online game from any place in the game, except in the middle of an event.

    • 5

Press the up arrow on your directional pad to open the Easy Drive Menu. From there, scroll down to the option labeled "Freeburn Online" and press the right arrow to open it. Here, you can quick join an existing game, do a custom search for a game or start a new online game.

Play online by joining other players in completing Freeburn challenges or participating in events. If you started a new online game, you can decide what players will do using the Easy Drive Menu. If joining an existing game, events the host decides on will be announced on a scrolling ticker bar.
