How to Hook Up the PlayStation 3 to Your Wi-Fi

The PlayStation 3 console is the first of Sony's video game systems to come standard with a built-in wireless adapter. It also comes with an Ethernet port for gamers who do not have a Wi-Fi network at home. Setting your PS3 to connect to your Wi-Fi network will require some information from your network including the MAC address, SSID, WEP key and any other encryption keys used by your wireless network. Check your wireless router's manual for specifics on how to obtain this information.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Power" button on the front of your PlayStation 3 console. When the console powers up, navigate to "Settings" on the home menu. Select "Network" and press the "X" button on your controller.

    • 2

Select "Internet Connection Settings" from the list of options on the screen. Press the "X" button to enter the Internet connection options. Select "Yes" and press "X" on the next screen.

    • 3

Select "Wireless" from the list of options on the screen and press the "R" button on your controller. When prompted, select "Scan" and press the "R" button again. The system will begin to scan the area for available Wi-Fi networks.

    • 4

Select your Wi-Fi network's name from the list of available access points on the screen. Press the "X" button. Verify that the SSID displayed on the next screen is the same as your wireless network's. Press the "R" button on the controller.

Select the security setting that matches your wireless network's settings. Press the "R" button and enter the encryption key. Confirm your data and press the "R" button.

Select "Easy" on the next screen and press the "R" button. Make any changes or adjustments to the network settings as required by your wireless network. Your PS3 is now connected to your Wi-Fi network.
