How to Troubleshoot the PS3's SingStar

In Playstation's "SingStar" series, you can be a singing star thanks to the microphones and the songs included in the game. The USB connector included with the "SingStar" game allows you to connect two microphones to the game, so you and a friend can sing together. However, sometimes the "SingStar" game has issues and needs troubleshooting.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the USB connector and microphones from your console. It's possible they weren't connected properly initially, so you will reconnect them in a moment.

    • 2

Power on the PlayStation 3 console.

    • 3

Plug the USB cord connected to the USB connector into an open USB port on the PlayStation console. Wait for the blue light to illuminate on the Connector box.

    • 4

Plug the red microphone cord into the red port on the USB connector and the blue microphone into the blue port.

    • 5

Verify that your console is connected to the Internet and your PlayStation Network account is working properly. To fix the connection, check the "Internet Settings" option under "Settings" and log in to your account under "Network." For more information on connecting your PlayStation to the Internet, see Resources. If you don't have a PlayStation Network account or don't use the PlayStation Network, and this hasn't affected your gameplay, you can skip this step.

    • 6

Make sure the volume on the TV isn't set to "Mute" or too low to be heard. If the TV doesn't respond to your remote, replace the batteries.

    • 7

Begin the "SingStar" game and begin a song. If your game doesn't play, eject the disc and examine it. If the underside of the disc is scratched, you may need to replace it with a new one.

    • 8

Hold the microphone two to three inches from your mouth, pointing the base of the microphone toward the floor. Sing into it as you would normally. Verify that the game is picking up the cues correctly. If the game functions normally, you are finished.

    • 9

Switch the blue microphone into the red port and attempt to sing the song. If the microphone works, then you may need a new microphone. Note that sounds going into the blue microphone will appear on the red player's side of the screen.

Contact Sony customer support if your game still doesn't work. Explain the steps that you have taken to troubleshoot the game thus far. Sony may have to send you a replacement USB connector, game or microphones.
