How to Troubleshoot SingStar

"SingStar" for the PlayStation 3 features over 30 songs aspiring singers can enjoy. Players can use its revamped online mode and PS3/PS2 compatible microphones to create and share their accomplishments. However, "SingStar" can have disadvantages. Its online incompatibility and hardware problems detract a potential player's enjoyment of the game. Inconvenient disc read errors may occur, possibly preventing gameplay altogether. Troubleshoot errors to improve your gameplay experience.

Instructions

  1. Microphone Troubleshooting

    • 1

Hold the microphone 2 to 3 inches from your mouth and sing toward the top. Avoid grasping toward a television set, or it may emit a buzzing noise. Don't tangle the wires with other controller wires or your feet. Stepping on the wires may cause connection issues within the microphone or PS3 controller ports.

    • 2

Check the microphone's USB connection if your voice doesn't reverberate through the microphone. Firmly plug both microphones into the PlayStation 3's USB ports. Check the volume of your television set. Check the microphone's wires for any fraying or cuts near its narrow end or USB plug. You may have to replace faulty microphones.

    • 3

Check the body of the microphone if it starts emitting noise. Clutching or moving the microphone rapidly might damage the body. Try moving at least 1 to 2 feet away from the television. Electronic interference, or feedback, may affect your microphone's playback. Turn off any extra nearby devices and hold the microphone close to yourself.

    Online Troubleshooting

    • 4

Connect to the online mode through your PlayStation 3's wired Ethernet or wireless connection. Incorrect network settings prevent components, such as a DNS server, from bridging a proper connection. Head to your PS3's network settings and change to appropriate network settings. Consult your network provider if the problem persists.

    • 5

Log into the SingStore through the game's integrated store menu. Difficulty with logging into the SingStore suggests you have an incompatible region or location. Prevent this by using the SingStore assigned to your location. PlayStation Network updates may also affect SingStore compatibility. Try converting the game data back to its previous state or contact PlayStation Network support.

    • 6

Fix negative effects of updates by deleting the current firmware for "SingStar" and redownloading it. Click the Controller icon on your PS3's menu and look for "Game Data." Find "SingStar Update" and press the triangle button. Delete after highlighting that option. Reinstall the "SingStar" update data after logging into the SingStore.

    • 7

Clean your "SingStar" disc if you're experiencing errors while online. Examine the underside of your SingStar PS3 disc and clean it using a fine cloth, holding the disc carefully. Take the cloth away from the center of the disc, pressing firm enough to remove blemishes.
