How to Fly a Helicopter in GTA: Vice City

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is a 2002 video game from Rockstar Games that enables players to take the role of a gangster who builds a criminal empire. Over the course of the adventure players are able to control various types of vehicles including a helicopter. Flying the helicopter is a simple process and can be done in a few steps.

  Find a helicopter. These are strewn around the game world in special locations that you will have to access. For example, you can acquire a police helicopter that is located in the downtown police department. Simply run to the rear of the building and follow the staircase where you can find an unmanned helicopter. Most of the helicopters in the game are found on the tops of abandoned buildings so you will have to keep your eye out.

  Enter the helicopter. This can be done by tapping the triangle button. Once your character enters the vehicle, you will be able to fly and explore the city. Keep in mind that in most cases flying a helicopter is considered an illegal activity, so the police or military may send their forces against you.

  Test the controls to get a feel for the helicopter. The X button will allow you to accelerate forward while the Square button will shift the vehicle downward. You can bail out by tapping on the Triangle button. Pressing up or down on the joystick will make the helicopter move forward or backward respectively. You cannot turn it left or right using the joystick. You may tap the R2 button to turn left and the L2 button to turn right.
