How to Tune a Race Car in Gt4

Grand Turismo 4 is a widely acclaimed racing game for the Playstation. It is a racing simulation that allows a wide range of customization options for cars, great graphics and a massive number of cars for you to purchase upgrade and tune. Gran Turismo, or GT4 as it is often called, allows you to tune certain aspects of you car to change the way it handles. The settings adjust how the car behaves while you're on the track and correct adjustment can cut seconds off your lap time.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter a race and do a few laps. Watch which gear you are in at the end of the longest straight and at the slowest point of the track.

    • 2

Enter the settings menu and adjust the settings for 6th gear until you are just reaching top revs at the end of the longest straight. Adjust the settings for 1st gear until you are in it for the lowest corner. Adjust the other gears so they are evenly spaced between 1st and 6th gears.

    • 3

Enter the race again. This time focus on the balance of the car in fast corners. Is the back loosing grip before the front (known as oversteer) or the front loosing grip before the back (known as understeer). Oversteer is easily recognized because the car will want to spin in towards the center of the corner. Understeer makes the car plow out towards the outside of the corner.

    • 4

Return to the settings menu and adjust the suspension settings. If you have oversteer then make the rear suspension softer. If you have understeer then make the front suspension softer. There is an optimal balance between over- and understeer that depends on your driving style so keep adjusting the settings until you're comfortable.

    • 5

Enter a race and test the balance of your car as you brake for a slow corner. Turn in while you're on the brakes. Being on the brakes will change the balance of the car, not whether you get oversteer or understeer while on the brakes.

    • 6

Enter the settings menu and adjust the brake balance towards the front if the car tends to understeer under braking and towards the rear if the car tends to understeer under braking. Again, your driving style will determine the exact balance of these settings so test and test again.
