Instructions
Set Up a Static IP
Consult your router's instruction manual to determine how to set up port forwarding on your device.
Turn on your PS3. Allow the menu to load.
Go to "Settings" > "Network Settings" > "Settings and Connection Status List." Write down the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Router that you see listed.
Go back by hitting the "O" button.
Select "Internet Connection Settings." A message will pop up; hit "OK."
Choose the "Custom" method.
Choose "Wired" if your PS3 is hooked up via an Ethernet cable or "Wireless" if your computer is hooked up wirelessly.
Select "Manual Settings" instead of "Auto-Detect."
Hit "Auto-Detect" for the speed settings.
Choose "Manual Settings" for the IP address.
Input an IP that is not within your router's dhcp range. You will end up changing only the last few numbers of the address to a number between 2 and 256, typically. You can do this by logging into your router and clicking on the "LAN" or "DHCP" tab. As every router is different, please see the Resources section if you need assistance.
Input the Default Gateway and Subnet Mask you wrote down in Step 2.
Call your Internet Service Provider and tell the customer service representative that you need to know the ISP's DNS server so that your PS3 can connect to the Internet. The representative should give you two numbers. Hit "X" to go to the next screen.
Set the MTU settings to be "Automatic."
Choose "Do Not Use" on the Proxy Settings page.
Disable UPNP settings.
Save the settings by hitting "X."
Run the connection test that you are prompted with.

Unplug the Ethernet cable that connects the router and the modem.
