Mafia II
2K Games presents "Mafia II," the sequel to "Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven." The game follows Vito Scaletta who returns from World War II to his family living in Empire Bay. Unfortunately, because of his father's death while Vito was at war, his family is now in serious debt. In order to earn money, Vito starts taking illicit jobs until he is involved between the three major mafia families of Empire Bay. Mafia II plays like a third-person shooter game, with weapons that match the World War II-era setting such as the MP28, M3 Grease Gun, and the MP40. What sets the PlayStation 3 version of Mafia II from the rest of the gaming versions is its free, exclusive download content, such as the new mission titled "The Betrayal of Jimmy."
The Godfather: The Don's Edition
"The Godfather: The Don's Edition" is produced by Electronic Arts and is closely based on the 1972 film as well as the novel. The game follows Aldo Trapini, who works within the Mafia network of Don Vito Corleone and eventually makes his meteoric rise to become the Don of New York City. "The Godfather: The Don's Edition" consists of several story-based missions, some intertwined with the events of the film (such as planting a horse's head in Jack Woltz's bed) and some that are personal to Aldo Trapini's story. The PlayStation 3 version is different from the rest of the console imports in that it uses the PS3's Sixaxis motion sensors to perform actions such as shoves and finishing blows. In addition, "The Godfather: The Don's Edition" is exclusive to two new locations that allow players to access special scenarios.
Grand Theft Auto IV
The "Grand Theft Auto" franchise continues with its fourth installment for all major gaming systems, including the PlayStation 3. "Grand Theft Auto IV" revolves around war veteran Niko Bellic, who fails to complete a smuggling job from his boss in Europe and escapes to Liberty City. However, Niko is unable to completely be free of the criminal underworld as he delves deeper into Liberty City's mafia syndicate, which weaves players into an engaging storyline filled with betrayal, assassinations and ultimately revenge. While the game plays much like its predecessors with an open world that is free to explore and engage, the combat system has been revamped to offer elements such as ducking behind objects, aiming at parts of the body and using several new hand-to-hand combat maneuvers. "Grand Theft Auto IV" also has two expansion contents available that continue to expand on the game's story and world: "The Lost and Damned" and "The Ballad of Gay Tony."
