How to Make a Socom Lag Switch

The SOCOM game franchise is a popular Navy Seals-oriented video game that has an online component. You can greatly improve your playing capabilities when fighting others online in the game by using a lag switch when playing on a Playstation 3 (or any other online-equipped video game console that SOCOM is available for). The lag switch interrupts the Internet signal coming from the gaming server that you are connected to and allows you to move your online character without fear of being seen or attacked. Making a lag switch to use in SOCOM will not gain you any street cred because you are cheating, but at least you will be able to play for longer periods of time before the inevitable attack kills you.

    • 1

Put a sheet of newspaper on a table. Put the Ethernet cable on the newspaper.

    • 2

Measure 2 feet from one end of the Ethernet cable. Make a dot at the 2-foot mark with the black marking pen. Measure 10 inches across the Ethernet cable from the dot just made. Make a dot at the 10-inch mark with the marking pen.

    • 3

Cut a slit in the outer sheath between the two dots with the utility knife. Separate outward the left and right sides of the outer sheath.

    • 4

Pull the solid orange wire out from inside of the slit in the Ethenet cable. Cut the solid orange wire in half with the wire cutters.

    • 5

Strip 1 inch of insulation off each end of the solid orange wire with the wire strippers

    • 6

Place the push button on its side by the slit in the Ethernet cable. Heat up the soldering iron for five minutes.

    • 7

Solder one of the ends of one of the solid orange wires to one of the two contacts on the bottom of the push button. Let the solder cool for a minute. Cover the contact with a piece of electrical tape.

    • 8

Solder the end of the other solid orange wire to the other contact on the bottom of the push button. Let the solder cool for a minute. Cover the contact with a piece of electrical tape.

    • 9

Plug the end of the Ethernet cable that is closest to the push button into the Ethernet port on the back of the video game console. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port of the router that is connected to your home network.

    • 10

Turn on the video game console. Insert the SOCOM video game disc. Select the SOCOM video game from the game console's home menu. Wait as the SOCOM video game loads onto the video game console.

    • 11

Select an online campaign to play from the game menu. Wait as the video game console connects to the SOCOM game server and begins to display the online video game.

    • 12

Maneuver through the playing field until you find an enemy character that you want to take out. Approach the enemy as surreptitiously as possible.

    • 13

Press the push button to activate the lag switch. Sprint over to the enemy who has now become fixed in place.

    • 14

Raise your weapon up to the enemy character's head. Press the push button to suddenly become visible to the gamer controlling the enemy character, who can now move again.

    • 15

Squeeze the trigger of your weapon. Run away. Go find other enemy characters to take out.

    • 16

Quit the game when you are done playing. Eject the SOCOM game disc. Turn off the video game player. Remove the Ethernet cable from the connections on the video game console and the router attached to the home network.
