How to Troubleshoot Guitar Hero Guitars

The "Guitar Hero" video game is operated by a special guitar controller the player uses to press keys to the rhythm of popular songs. These plastic guitar controllers can break if they are pressed too hard or if the game has been worn down from too many late-night parties. Fixing a guitar controller requires soldering small wires and fixing connectors. It is a tedious job, but it will save you a lot of money.

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the back piece of the guitar with a Phillips screwdriver if the guitar is no longer under warranty. (Some game pieces may still be covered by warranty). Under the plate, you will see lots of wires connected to boards by solder-heated metal.

    • 2

Check for any metal solder that has fallen off the connectors. If there are any, solder the metal back into position. Lightly wiggle the wires. Loose wires may cause shorts, which cause the buttons or the strumming bar to not work correctly. If any feel loose, re-solder them.

    • 3

Tighten the strumming bar by bending its metal contact upward. The higher the angle is turned, the more sensitive the strum bar will be.

    • 4

Screw the back plate back onto the controller.

    • 5

Tape the whammy bar to the guitar with masking tape if the bar is too loose.
