How to Use a PS3 Wireless Les Paul Guitar With Guitar Hero 3 on a PC

"Guitar Hero" is a fun game that's pushing its way into a growing video game market. The Xbox 360 "Guitar Hero" controller works with the computer, so ideally the computer would recognize the Playstation 3 guitar as well. Unfortunately, computers often make things much more complex than they need to be. If you plugged in the controller and it didn't function the way you were expecting, this article can help you get moving in the right direction.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug in the guitar and download the necessary drivers. If your computer needs any specific drivers for the Les Paul guitar to work, it should download them automatically. Make sure you're using the Les Paul guitar. The computer may not recognize other guitar types.

    • 2

Download and install the latest update for "Guitar Hero 3." Without the latest update, the drivers may not work properly and recognize the guitar.

    • 3

Download a program called JoyToKey and a copy of the Guitar Hero 3 Config file. Both files can be found with a basic Internet search. Save both files to the desktop.

    • 4

Extract the JoyToKey file into a folder on the desktop. Place the Guitar Hero file in the same folder that you just created.

    • 5

Execute JoyToKey and select the guitar option. At the top of the screen, select "options," then "controller" and finally "configure keyboard." Make sure the guitar and wireless receiver are connected and turned on for this step.

    • 6

Configure the PS3 guitar to your liking. If you want the default configuration, start with the green button as button one, and proceed down the neck of the guitar.
