How to Play Online on a PS3 With a Sprint Air Card

If you have no existing Internet connection in your location, the PlayStation 3 may lose a good portion of its appeal. You can remedy this problem by using a mobile Internet connection, such as a Sprint Air Card. Unfortunately, the Air Card can not plug directly into the PS3 to get you online. Instead, you can use your laptop to route the signal and begin playing PS3 games over the Internet in no time.

Things You'll Need

  • Laptop or router
  • Ethernet cable

Instructions

Plug the Sprint Air Card into the laptop. On the laptop, look in your "Network Connections" folder for the connection that is active. This should be your Sprint Air Card. Right-click on that active connection and click on "Properties." Click on the tab marked "Advanced." Look for a box that says "Internet Connection Sharing" and click on the option box marked "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection." This should allow your laptop to share the connection with your PS3.

Connect the ethernet cable to both the PS3 and the laptop. On the PS3, this port is located in the back of the system. The location of the port on the laptop will vary depending on the manufacturer.

    • 3

Turn on the PS3. On the PS3, look under the "Settings" tab and select "Network Settings." Choose the option marked "Easy" and the PS3 automatically should detect the connection with your laptop.

If the connection is not detected or times out repeatedly, you may have firewalls set up on your laptop that prevent it from sharing the connection. Lower the security settings in your firewall program and see whether that remedies the problem.
