How to Beat the Screaming Mantis in Metal Gear Solid 4

Before the climactic final battle of "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of the Patriots," Solid Snake must overcome one final enemy. This enemy serves as a testament to the postmodern nature of the "Metal Gear Solid" series. The name of this villain is Screaming Mantis, she serves as a spiritual successor to the infamous Psycho Mantis of the first Metal Gear Solid. Unfortunately for the player, taking Screaming Mantis out will prove to be worse than her predecessor.

The syringe (ready to use in your left inventory slot)

Instructions

- 1
  Use the syringe on yourself. At the beginning of the fight, Screaming Mantis will try to control the nanomachines in your body. The syringe will suppress those nanomachines and allow you to move freely.

  Use the syringe on your friend, Meryl, as Screaming Mantis will use her body to try and shoot you. Walk up to Meryl (without a weapon equipped) and press "R1" to grab her, then press the "Triangle" button to use the syringe.

  Shoot the reanimated soldiers in the room with any gun at your disposal. Screaming Mantis will try to use them to shoot at you. After killing them, she will focus only on you.

  Shoot the puppet hanging from Screaming Mantis' left arm, known as the "Sorrow" puppet. While doing this, run to avoid her two major attacks: throwing metal stars at you, and swinging at you with her blade. You will need to shoot at the Sorrow puppet five times before it will completely detach from her body. You can then grab the doll.

  Run back to Meryl, who has been resurrected, and use the syringe on her again in the same manner as step 2.

  Repeat step 4, but with the puppet on Mantis' right arm, known as the "Mantis" doll. Once the doll detaches from her body, you can grab it.

  Equip the Mantis doll as a weapon. Once you have, aim the doll at Mantis and shoot. If she is hit, you will be in control of her body.

  Hold the "L1" button and shake the PS3 controller until Mantis has been defeated. However, the fight is not yet over.

  Shoot Screaming Mantis (who is now without her armor) with your tranquilizer gun. She will dodge many of your shots, but keep at it and she will eventually go down for good.
