Designing the Level
Brainstorm the level's concept. If you're having a hard time getting one out, play some of the campaign levels or user-generated levels or watch a movie that you like. Take some of the design ideas and concepts that you enjoyed and note them down.
Sketch out a map of the level on paper. Make it large enough that you can note your special elements and important plot points.
Insert the LittleBigPlanet Game Disc into your Playstation 3 console.
Start the game and select your My Moon area. Choose a blank crater to start building your level in.
Watch some of the building tutorials. This will unlock building features and teach you how to make some of the functions work.
Build the basic structure on which you will attach the rest of the level. Carve out the rooms, the hallways and the other important parts of the level. Keep the scale in mind, as this is important: Walk your Sackperson through the level to verify that the height is correct.
Start adding the contraptions and traps for the level. Start at the beginning of the level and build the devices, one at a time. Test each device by pressing play--but rewind after you set them off. Rewinding is important: If you set up an exploding wall, then blow it up and save it, you will have saved the demolished wall, not the completed one.
Save, then play-test your level. Make sure everything works the way it's supposed to.
Add point bubbles and rewards to the level. Give players reasons to explore and move through the level. Perhaps making it into a race or adding some secret areas.
Decorate the level. Make copious use of stickers, objects and lighting to give your level the look and feel that you're going for. This is also a good time to add the text and dialogue, which can be an extremely time-consuming process. Press Start to save the dialogue.
Save your level one final time. Write in a description and share it with the world.
