How To Update a 60GB PS3

Sony releases software updates, also known as firmware updates, on a fairly regular basis to improve the performance on the PlayStation 3 (PS3). Sony firmware updates have added everything from improved gaming performance and new language capabilities to Adobe Flash compatibility and the ability to access the system's main menu (XMB) from any game while playing. Once these updates have been installed, you can begin enjoying any new features on your PS3 immediately.

  Ensure that your PS3 is connected to the Internet either wirelessly or via an Ethernet cable.

  Turn the PS3 on, and on the main menu (XMB), navigate to "Settings."

  Select "System Update" and press the "X" button.

  Select "Update via Internet" and press the "X" button.

  Select "OK" and press the "X" button once the system has located the proper update for your system to download the necessary firmware files.

  Follow the on screen instructions once the update has been downloaded to install the firmware update.
