How to Hook Up a PS3 Controller Via Bluetooth to a Computer

There are thousands of excellent computer games; however, many gamers avoid playing them, choosing console games instead. The reason for this is the input device: Many games are not suited to a keyboard/mouse setup. A solution to this problem is to use your PS3 controller as a joystick for PC games.

  • Bluetooth 2.0 dongle or Bluetooth 2.0 enabled computer
  • Mini USB cable (cable used to charge PS3 controller)

Instructions

    • 1

      Download these files: FreeBT, libusb-win32, BtSix and PPJoy (see Resources).

      Install libusb-win32 and extract and install PPJoy.

      Extract FreeBT and plug in your USB Bluetooth Dongle or update your Bluetooth drivers to the driver files extracted from FreeBT.

      Connect the PS3 controller via the mini USB cable to your computer so that it can be recognized via Bluetooth, then launch BtSix and press the address button.

      Disconnect the PS3 controller from the USB cable and press the PS button on the controller.

      Launch PPJoy and add Virtual Joystick 1. At this point you will be able to map all of the buttons on the PS3 controller.
