How to Set Up a Home Network With a PS3

The PlayStation 3 gaming console has the ability to connect to an existing Internet connection so that you can download content from Sony, install updates or even connect to the other computers on your network. As long as you have a router connected to your modem, you can add a PS3 to your home network.

      Power off your PS3 console completely and remove the power cable from the back of the machine. Press the power button of your cable or DSL modem and then unplug its power cable as well.

      Connect one end of an Ethernet cable into any of the open ports on your router, and connect the other end into the Ethernet port on the back of the PS3 console. Plug the modem back in and power it back on.

      Wait two minutes and then plug the power cable back into your PS3 console. Press the power button on the console to turn it on.

      Select "Settings" in the PS3 home menu and then choose "Network Settings." Choose "Internet Settings" and then "Enable." Choose the option that says "Internet Connection Settings" and then select "Wired Connection." Select "Address Settings" and then choose the option that says "Easy." Press "Save" and then choose "Test Connection" to complete the setup on your PS3.

      Turn on one of the computers on your network and click on the "Start" bar. Choose "Control Panel" and then click on "Network Sharing Center." Choose the option that says "View Computers and Devices" and then click on the link for the PS3 to connect it to the network.
