How to Play PSP Games Without Updating

If you buy a video game that requires you to have updated software on your PlayStation Portable (PSP), then you will have to update your PSP's software to play that game. The PSP will automatically have a patch install for you when you insert the game to update your PSP. However, even if there is an update available, you can still play those games without updating your PSP.

  Insert a game that does not require you to update your system to play it into your PSP's game drive. These are usually games which you've already played on your PSP or games which were developed before the update becoming available.

  Power on your PSP. When there is a video game already inserted into the PSP's game drive, the PSP will automatically load that game and start to play it for you.

  Scroll to the Game menu using the arrow pad to scroll left and right. Press "Scroll" to the UMD option and press "X" to load the game. You only need to do this step if you inserted the UMD into the game drive after the PSP was already powered on, or if you were on the PSP's Home before deciding to play.
